The highlight of the evening was the announcement of GRF's newly published report, "Nine Years of Innovation, CATALYST FOR A CURE REPORT: 2002 to 2010." The report was inspired by former Board member F. T. "Ted" Barr and guided to completion by current Board member Deirdre Porter.

Deirdre was joined by President and CEO Thomas Brunner to present the first copy of the report to Ted and Melza Barr in appreciation for their leadership gifts totaling $4.2 million that have supported the ongoing research of the Catalyst For a Cure consortium.

Additional Recognition

Frank Stein and Paul S. May were recognized for the inaugural "Frank Stein and Paul S. May Grants for Innovative Glaucoma Research," a gift of $100,000 that will support three one-year pilot research projects.

Nobuko Saito Cleary and Gary Cleary, PharmD, PhD received recognition and heartfelt appreciation for their work on our Annual Benefit. For two years they have co-chaired this annual event that is responsible for about 12% of the Foundation's income. In January, over $450,000 was raised from the event, and Nobuko herself brought six guest tables to the event and raised over $60,000. The Clearys have made glaucoma a personal priority and we are grateful for their friendship and hard work to support the Glaucoma Research Foundation.

Many of our Catalyst Circle members attended, including; Richard Hirayama, Arlene Anthony, Anthony Fisher, PhD, Roberta Kameda, Patricia and Charles Lee, Jane Lurie, and Barbara and Robert Voss.

We also welcomed our non-profit partners from Prevent Blindness, Northern CA, Executive Director Wing-See Leung and April Nakayoshi, Annual Auction donors Louise Spinelli with Richard Burnley, and from AcuMems Vernon G. Wong, MD and Doug Lee.
