Innovations in Glaucoma to be Highlighted at 9th Annual New Horizons Forum

On February 7, 2020, Glaucoma Research Foundation (GRF) will host the Glaucoma 360 New Horizons Forum at the Grand Hyatt Union Square in San Francisco.

Now in its 9th year, this unique annual meeting was founded by Adrienne Graves, PhD, a member of the GRF board and Andrew G. Iwach, MD, director of the Glaucoma Center of San Francisco and chairman of GRF’s board, with the goal to highlight innovations in glaucoma and assemble key clinical, scientific, industry, financial, and regulatory leaders from across the United States and around the world.

“We will once again feature early-stage companies and their new technologies and approaches to glaucoma care,” said Dr. Graves. “The amount of innovation that is flourishing in the glaucoma space right now is phenomenal. As a result, there are more therapeutic options than ever before to help patients. Glaucoma 360 is an important catalyst to bring all the important elements together that can advance a promising idea into clinical use.”

“For our 2020 New Horizons Forum,” said Dr. Iwach, “in addition to highlighting new developments in glaucoma diagnostics and therapies, there will also be a session on ‘Innovation 101,’ which will discuss how you transition from a great idea into the next breakthrough therapy for our patients. The FDA will be involved in this session as their guidance is critical to get new and more effective solutions to our patients.”

David W. Parke II, MD, CEO of the AAO, will deliver the Drs. Henry and Frederick Sutro Memorial Lecture, the Forum’s keynote address. Dr. Parke will highlight AAO’s role in facilitating innovation through fostering collaboration with industry partners and AAO members, as well as providing incredible AAO resources such as the Intelligent Research in Sight (IRIS) registry.

Glaucoma 360 Steering Committee member, L. Jay Katz, MD, recommends that clinicians attend this meeting annually. He says, “It truly inspires me as a physician to learn what is on the horizon for my patients. It is quite an uplifting experience to be a part of Glaucoma 360.”

New Horizons Forum is the centerpiece of Glaucoma 360, GRF’s signature 3-day series of events planned for February 6 to 8, 2020. Additional activities include the Annual Gala to benefit GRF’s science and patient education programs, the 24th annual Glaucoma Symposium CME, and the 5th Annual Optometric Glaucoma Symposium.
