Applying For a Grant
For 30 years, the Glaucoma Research Foundation (GRF) has been the premiere organization in glaucoma research funding.
GRF supports new high-impact clinical, epidemiological and laboratory research based on our strategic research goals:
- Protect and restore the optic nerve
- Accurately detect glaucoma and monitor its progress
- Find the genes responsible for glaucoma
- Understand the intraocular pressure system and develop better treatments
- Determine the risk factors for glaucoma damage using systematic outcomes data
After we receive and review preliminary proposals, authors of proposals deemed by the Scientific Advisory Committee (SAC) to have scientific merit are invited to submit a full grant application.
This research is often just the beginning of what could possibly be an important breakthrough. The National Institutes of Health and large companies may pass over the young researcher with an innovative idea, if there is no precedent.
At GRF, we have the flexibility to provide seed money for creative pilot projects that hold promise. Then, armed with results from these pilot projects, scientists can often secure the major funding necessary to bring their ideas to fruition.
In addition to the pilot projects we fund, the Glaucoma Research Foundation is backing an ambitious project called the Catalyst For a Cure, designed to accelerate research leading to the conquest of glaucoma.
