Dolores J. Rush, Artist with Pigmentary Glaucoma

Dolores is a published card maker and rubber stamp artist with pigmentary glaucoma. She is doing her part to help raise awareness about glaucoma by asking other artists to get their comprehensive eye exams.

Dolores tells her artist friends to “make an eye appointment today to get your eyes examined - don’t let glaucoma steal the joy you have in creating cards and sharing them with others.”

Dolores told us, “I didn’t have any symptoms until a few years ago. Pigmentary glaucoma is a birth defect and a form of open angle glaucoma that usually shows up in middle age, which it did for me. I was having what I thought were sinus headaches, which I ignored until my eyes dilated suddenly — a warning sign that something was seriously wrong. If this hadn’t happened and I hadn’t made a quick visit to the nearest eye doctor, glaucoma could have stolen my sight.”

She implores all artists and designers to make an appointment for an eye exam. “I love being able to see! That’s why I’m doing my part to get the word out about glaucoma.”
