Symposium Features Prominent Glaucoma Experts
February 10, 2007, San Francisco – Nearly 300 ophthalmologists from around the country gathered for a half-day program at the Marines’ Memorial Club in San Francisco for the 11th Annual Glaucoma Symposium. Presentations from glaucoma experts updated attendees on new glaucoma algorithms, surgical and laser techniques, and glaucoma medications.
Keynote speaker, B. Thomas Hutchinson MD, Associate Clinical Professor of Ophthalmology at Harvard Medical School, gave a talk about how glaucoma diagnosis and treatment has changed over the years. Dr. Hutchinson’s featured talk, known as the Shaffer-Hetherington-Hoskins Lecture, was named in recognition of the three ophthalmologists who founded the Glaucoma Research Foundation in 1978.
Other presenters included Marc F. Lieberman MD’s talk on Conceptualizing IOP, Kuldev Singh MD’s Ethnic Considerations in Glaucoma Diagnosis, John Hetherington MD’s update on Alternative Glaucoma Medications, H. Dunbar Hoskins Jr. MD’s commentary on the risk of using risk calculators, and talks from Terri Pickering MD, Shan Lin MD, H. George Tanaka MD, Robert Stamper MD, and Andrew Iwach MD, all of whom are prominent glaucoma specialists.
The Annual Glaucoma Symposium, one of the largest meetings of its kind, is organized by the Glaucoma Research & Education Group (GREG), a San Francisco-based non-profit clinical research entity, sponsored in part by a grant from the Glaucoma Research Foundation (GRF).
GRF’s tabletop exhibit in the lobby handed out copies of the highly-regarded free patient education booklet Understanding And Living With Glaucoma and registered ophthalmologists to receive free glaucoma information for their patients.
