Silicon Valley Catalyst Update
A twilight setting at The Menlo Circus Club in Atherton served as the backdrop to the first Catalyst Update for Catalyst Circle members hosted by Charlot and Dennis Singleton, GRF Board Chairman.
On hand as the featured speaker, Philip Horner PhD, University of Washington, met and spoke one-on-one with Catalyst Circle guests during a reception of hors d’oeuvres and beverages. The more formal program was introduced by Dennis Singleton. After a few words about the many GRF activities funded by Catalyst Circle members, Thomas M. Brunner, GRF President and CEO, formally introduced Dr. Horner.
The topic of the evening, “Breakthroughs from the Neurosciences,” became an onsite biology lesson for the reception guests. Dr. Horner introduced Catalyst Circle members to the roots of CFC research. As he moved the audience from the visible to the cellular level of the CFC work, through drawings and commentary, the “students” proposed challenging and intuitive questions regarding cellular activity and non-activity and resulting effects on eye health.
To conclude the evening, Dr. Horner was thanked for his efforts and the Catalyst Circle guests were thanked for their generosity. Dennis urged guests to become advocates for testing, spread the word about GRF, our work and www.glaucoma.org, and encouraged guests to speed the cure through donations of any size.
