Pfizer’s Dr. John W. Grunden Joins Glaucoma Research Foundation Board of Directors

San Francisco, CA – February 11, 2009 – John W. Grunden, Pharm.D., the Senior Director/Global Medical Team Leader, Ophthalmology, within the Pfizer Global Medical Organization in New York City, was elected to the Board of Directors of the Glaucoma Research Foundation (GRF) at the January 27th board meeting.
Dr. Grunden is responsible for U.S. and global glaucoma medical activities for Pfizer, including the conduct of clinical trials, investigator-initiated research grants, strategic planning, and interactions with global regulatory agencies.
“John’s work at Pfizer contributes greatly to patient care for glaucoma, and Pfizer has sponsored GRF’s educational programs for many years, said Thomas M. Brunner, President and CEO of the Glaucoma Research Foundation. “Like GRF, Pfizer is focused on patient education and innovation in research to improve glaucoma treatment therapies. We are pleased to have John’s expertise on the Board as we work to speed the cure and spread the word about glaucoma.”
Prior to his appointment at Pfizer in 2003, Dr. Grunden worked in global medical affairs at Pharmacia where he supported the ophthalmology franchise from the time of Xalatan’s launch in 1996. He has also held numerous academic appointments.
Dr. Grunden received his Doctor of Pharmacy degree from the University of Utah after obtaining a Bachelor of Pharmacy degree from Washington State University. Following a residency in Clinical Pharmacy Practice, he completed a specialized residency at the University Hospital and Clinics in Salt Lake City, Utah.
