New Children's Book To Benefit Glaucoma

Sam Polakoff has glaucoma, and he is working to fight the disease and raise holiday spirits in the process.
Polakoff has authored a new children’s Christmas book entitled A Christmas Tale. The book is about two families coming together by chance in the true spirit of Christmas. It is age appropriate for children in first through fourth grades.
A routine eye check turned into something far different when Sam Polakoff was 27. Extremely nearsighted, Sam found out that he was at risk for glaucoma and would need biannual eye examinations. He learned that glaucoma is hereditary, often skipping a generation. He knew that his maternal grandmother and a paternal great-uncle also had
the disease.
Eleven years after those initial findings, the eye examination showed that Sam’s intraocular pressures were rising alarmingly. He began aggressive treatment, using specialized eye drops daily to prevent vision loss. Sam and his wife, Denise, sought to make an enduring impact toward glaucoma research and the ultimate cure.
In 2006, the Polakoffs formed the Samuel R. and Denise F. Polakoff Foundation, Ltd., an all-volunteer non-profit organization dedicated toward making a meaningful, long-term difference in the fight against glaucoma.
Sam’s book, A Christmas Tale, is beautifully illustrated by Jennifer Taylor of British Columbia, Canada. Ms. Taylor is the illustrator of more than 30 books for children.
100% of the proceeds from this new book will be donated to the fight against glaucoma. More information is available at the Polakoff Foundation website, and at Amazon.com.
