Golfing To Fight Glaucoma

Forest Hill, Maryland, June 26, 2007 — The Polakoff Foundation’s 2nd Annual Golf Outing To Fight Glaucoma, was held on Monday, June 25, 2007 at Mountain Branch Golf Course in Joppa, Maryland. The event raised funds to benefit glaucoma research and education.

95 golfers, 40 sponsors, and a dozen volunteers helped the Polakoff Foundation to raise record funds for the fight against glaucoma. 70 million people around the world suffer from the blinding eye disease called glaucoma. Sight lost to glaucoma can never be recovered.

Maryland business and community leader Sam Polakoff, now in his 40’s, was diagnosed as a “glaucoma suspect” at age 27. In January, 2006, Sam and his wife Denise founded a national non-profit corporation to support glaucoma research, create public awareness, and make services such as free screenings and educational materials available.

The Polakoff Foundation concentrates its fundraising efforts to assist those who can pursue breakthrough research in the quest for a glaucoma cure, and assists organizations offering services related to the fight against glaucoma.
