Consumers Confused by Eye Care Choices
March, 2005 — A recent online survey commissioned by The National Consumers League (NCL) indicated that many consumers are confused about the differences between eye care providers.
Consumer choices of eye care providers include opticians, optometrists, and ophthalmologists. These providers serve a broad range of patient needs, from fitting eyeglasses to performing eye surgeries, and all have different levels of education and training. NCL commissioned the survey in order to explore consumers’ understanding of the eye care arena.
