Benefit Host Committee Reception at Baccarat
November 28, 2007 San Francisco — A handsome group of Glaucoma Research Foundation (GRF) supporters gathered among the glitter of Baccarat Crystal Boutique on Union Square in a reception honoring members of the Host Committee for GRF’s 30th Anniversary Celebration and Benefit. GRF board members past and present joined in the festivities.

Dr. Jack Hetherington spoke about how it was years ago for the Glaucoma Research Foundation, naming names and giving credit. Gifts for the Benefit from members of the Anniversary Committee (led by Dr. Hetherington with Dr. H. Dunbar Hoskins, Jr.) have reached $15,000 and counting.
June Behrendt updated guests on auction preparations (the on-line portion starts soon) and Robert C. Nevins accepted GRF’s VISION Award for individual leadership at a critical time in the foundation’s not-so-distant past.
Among other stalwart long-time supporters, Dr. Lars Vistnes and his wife Carol came to share reminiscences, good wishes, and offer more good ideas. GRF President and CEO Tom Brunner introduced Dr. Charles Munnerlyn — he and his wife Judy are benefit co-chairs. Dr. Munnerlyn made some interesting comments demonstrating how far the science has come but how much remains to be done.
GRF’s current board of directors was very well represented with the California contingent turning out in force: In addition to Tom Brunner, Jack Hetherington and June Behrendt, Allen Bouch, Dr. Andrew Iwach, Fred Brinkmann, Michael Penn, Deirdre Porter, Dennis Singleton, Dr. Robert Stamper, and Art Takahara were on hand to shake hands, catch up, and raise a glass.
Glaucoma Research Foundation Anniversary Committee members include John Hetherington MD and H. Dunbar Hoskins, Jr. MD (co-chairs), William and Sarah Brown, Robert Drabkin, Robert Nevins, Bruce Spivey MD, Samuel Urcis, and Carol and Lars Vistnes MD.
