Researchers reported in the October 1998 issue of the American Journal of Ophthalmology, “Intraocular pressure is part of the pathogenic process in normal tension glaucoma. Therapy that is effective in lowering intraocular pressure and free of adverse effects would be expected to be beneficial in patients who are at risk of disease progression.” Other important information has been gleaned from this research that will benefit those with other forms of glaucoma. For instance, researchers have been able to identify certain risk factors for glaucoma and information about the benefits of treatment.
