Lectures Highlight Recent Advances in Glaucoma Research and Treatments

September 24, 2011 - Walnut Creek, CA: Arlene Anthony, founding member of Glaucoma Research Foundation’s East Bay Leadership Council welcomed over 45 guests to a late afternoon reception, lecture and dinner al fresco that featured a talk by Andrew G. Iwach, MD, Executive Director of The Glaucoma Center of San Francisco and Chair of GRF’s Board of Directors. Dr. Iwach discussed glaucoma testing, current therapies, and new treatment advancements, answering audience questions throughout the lecture.

In addition to Ms. Anthony’s many loyal friends, the audience included founding members of the East Bay Leadership Council Susie and Schuyler Bailey; Paul S. May and Frank Stein; and Nancy Green, Jackie Schmid, Karen Campbell, Jan Smith, and Peggy Gibb of the Diablo Valley Delta Gamma Alumnae chapter.

October 14, 2011 - Mill Valley, CA: Catherine and Charles Wilmoth, founding members of GRF’s Marin Leadership Council hosted a community outreach lecture and buffet luncheon for 40 guests at the Mill Valley Community center. Glaucoma Research Foundation co-founder John Hetherington, MD joined President and CEO Thomas Brunner in welcoming the guests. Long-time supporters Mary Helen Pidgeon and Marjorie Nevitt attended along with the many members of the Ida Geary Glaucoma Group led by Judith Snyder and assisted by Milton Diaz, who with his wife Jayne Wenger are also Marin Leadership Council members.

Guest lecturer Andrew G. Iwach, MD led the audience in a lively discussion about alternative glaucoma treatments. Catherine Wilmoth said, “This type of informative lecture is an important aspect of what we do at GRF. We are truly proud to serve our community in this way.”

Glaucoma 360 Launched

Over 40 guests including Glaucoma Research Foundation board members and Ophthalmology Times staff gathered in San Francisco at the Russian Hill residence of board member Adrienne Graves, PhD to celebrate the launch of “Glaucoma 360,” a 3-day series of events offering a full-compass view of glaucoma that will be presented from February 2-4, 2012 in San Francisco. The Catalyst for a Cure Annual Benefit on February 2 will be followed by the New Horizons Forum on February 3 (a meeting for new ideas in glaucoma diagnostics and treatment), and a continuing medical education (CME) course for physicians on February 4.
