Silicon Valley Chapter

Glaucoma Research Foundation’s Silicon Valley Chapter was launched in fall 2007 to raise awareness in South Bay Area communities about the urgent need for innovative glaucoma research.

The Daniel Scott Weston Glaucoma Research Lecture

GRF’s first affiliate chapter held its inaugural event, the Daniel Scott Weston Glaucoma Research Lecture, in October 2007. The Weston Lecture is the cornerstone of the chapter’s annual fall meeting.

The inaugural lecture was given by Robert M. Weinreb MD, UCSD Distinguished Professor. At the University of California, San Diego, Shiley Eye Center Dr. Weinreb is the Director of the Hamilton Glaucoma Center.

The Weston Lecture was delivered in 2008 by Allen B. Poirson, PhD and in 2009 by Philip Horner, PhD (University of Washington). Dr. Horner’s lecture was entitled “New Therapeutic Targets: Preventing Blindness from Glaucoma.”

Art Takahara brings proven leadership experience in a variety of successful fund-raising campaigns. Art chaired the $13 million campaign to build a new Events Center for Azusa Pacific University, and was Chairman of the Board of the Community School of Music during its $10 million capital campaign. He is a former Mayor of Mountain View, and the founder and president of his company, De Anza Manufacturing.
